Rethinking African Security Network

The African partner of the German NGO SICHERHEIT NEU DENKEN (SND), Rethinking Security in Africa Network is a non-political, non-profit, and interregional African non-governmental organization. It aims to promote innovative and sustainable solutions offered by the socio-political paradigm of active nonviolence to strengthen security in Africa.
We strive to raise awareness, mobilize, and strengthen the capacities of populations and governments while giving them the means to strengthen peace, security, and living together.
We work together to promote and above all rethink security and peace in Africa in accordance with and respect for the objectives of the APSA (African Peace and Security Architecture).
RRAS plays a crucial role in the search for innovative and sustainable solutions to respond to the security challenges facing our continent. Thanks to our discussions and collaborations, we have been able to develop a better understanding of security issues and seek to implement concrete initiatives to resolve them.
The organization intervenes in the following areas:
-Promotion of African values
-Advancement of women and gender
-Peaceful management of conflicts and differences of interest
-Research, geopolitics, peace, and development
-Human development
-Good governance in the sustainable management of natural resources
Our network is dedicated to developing an African security strategy rooted in our cultural foundations. Our mission consists of:
– Mobilizing relevant stakeholders to develop an authentically African security approach, grounded in the continent’s traditional and religious values.
– Promoting a security model that prioritizes non-violence and peaceful conflict resolution, rather than reliance on weapons.
– Elevating and integrating traditional chieftaincies as essential pillars of local security governance.
– Strengthening the role of women and youth as key agents of mediation and community stability.
Our vision is of an Africa where security is built through the rediscovery and application of its own value systems and governance structures.
ORGANIZATION
The organization has the following bodies:
– A General Assembly (GA);
– A Steering Committee (SC);
– National Networks (NN)
The General Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of the RRAS. It is composed of all RRAS members. It meets once a year in ordinary session and in extraordinary session as often as necessary. Decisions of the General Assembly are made by a simple majority of the votes of the members present or represented.
The RRAS is administered by a Steering Committee composed of 11 members: four founding members as statutory members and seven members elected for a renewable three-year term. As the governing body of the RRAS, the Steering Committee is responsible for: The day-to-day management of the RRAS; Achieving objectives based on the vision and values set out in these Bylaws and the RRAS Internal Regulations; Coordinating the National Networks; Implementing the decisions of the General Assembly; and Ensuring efficient collaboration with the SND Network.
It meets once a month. However, it may be convened by its coordinator or at the request of one-third of its members if necessary.
The RRAS National Networks are made up of organizations that pursue the objectives of active non-violence, peace and security and human development and that adhere to the RRAS Statutes and Internal Regulations. The National Networks are full members of the RRAS in African States. Each Network has an office composed as follows: A National Coordinator; A General Rapporteur; A Deputy General Rapporteur; A General Treasurer; A Program and Mobilization Officer.
