Exchange between the RRAS team and the European Union’s peace and security expert

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, a meeting of the RRAS Steering Committee was held with Mr. Roll Stéphane, Peace and Security Expert of the African Union, as special guest.

All the members of the steering committee took part. During about two hours of exchanges, the parties discussed several issues including (i) The Action Plan of the Peace and Security Commission (PSC), (ii) the Livingstone Formula and its overview, (iii) Presentation of the Legal Framework of the African Union, (iv) The Engagement Procedure and Integration Mechanisms.

These discussions focused on the African Union’s Vision 2063. After the ensuing debates, RRAS draws great lessons including the need to revisit its action plan which will essentially take into account
– (i) the implementation of a monitoring and early warning strategy and
– (ii) anticipate actions of violence while raising awareness among communities on the African Union’s vision of Silencing the Guns in order to mobilize all stakeholders and give priority peace and socio-economic development efforts.
